The drama is calm for now..

I just realized I have not written since I got home. Now that all the major drama in my life has calmed down, I'm just living my normal boring life. We finally made it home on Wednesday afternoon. Thank goodness the airlines put us up in a room and fed us breakfast. That additional expense was not one I wanted to have to pay.

I had to go to work first thing Thursday morning and worked all day and the same on Friday. That's the first time I have had to do that and my body is freaking out today. I am so tired and now I am finally getting sick like Terry. I had to go to the doctor today and get a ZPack because my ears and head are a mess but already I am feeling better. I love that man who made a ZPack. That stuff is great.

I am happy to say as far as I know the other two girls are finally doing much better.

I have had a lot of questions about the "swine flu" comment that I wrote about. It has caused some fear in others and I want to give you some comfort I hope.

The girl who I wrote about went to the doctor and was diagnosed with the "FLU". Since she had already had a flu shot and now had the flu the doctor stated it could be "swine". There was never a test to actually determine it was or was not. It is flu season this time of year in Nicaragua and many people are sick with upper respiratory infections. It is rainy season there and just like here in January our germs come out in full force so do they in Nicaragua. Praise God she was not sick enough to be hospitalized so the doctor wanted to make sure so she prescribed Tamiflu for her and her family. It is always best to be safe than sorry.

I say this to say that there is no proof either way we caught Swine in Nicaragua and when you are working for the Lord you can expect warfare to happen. Don't let this scare you or worry you. If God has called you to go on a mission trip you must go with the attitude that anything could happen. I have been so blessed in the 15 times I have gone I have never gotten sick and never came home with anything until now. I would say those are really good odds.

Our driver's son was sick while we were there and it is very possible that he was the carrier of the flu germs. I have since checked on him and they are both doing fine.

Let me encouarge those of you with concern that I do all I can to make sure each team member is well taken care of while they are in Nicaragua but there is no 100 percent guarantee just like here. You can get sick in your own house just as easy as you can on a Mission trip. Don't let this scare you away.

Great things happen during our trip, I am sure the devil is ticked off to no end. He is not happy that all those people accepted Christ. He is not happy with the seed that we sewed and the lives we changed.

I am working on the pictures and will post them soon.

Until then... God Bless,

If you have any other questions about this let me know.

A Time for Rest...

I can see why Jesus made one day a time for rest. As busy as he was his body had to be wore out mentally, physically and spiritually. Today is our rest day before the girls on the trip head home. We will travel to Granada today to see an amazing volcano and do some shopping. To be honest, in the past I had not really cared for a day off. I figure I am spending all this money coming here I should get every minute out of it I can but this week has been so draining that even I need a rest day this trip.

It was been an amazing week for us. This is the first time I have gotten more than 2 minutes to write so I am going to bring you up-to-date.

At the beginning of the week as you remember we were delayed getting here. Still don't know why by the way but it happened. That made things really rushed and schedules much longer than planned.

We had 5 soccer games on Sunday. It was exciting to see them play and to get to know them. That's when we realized people were stealing the cleats. That made things really difficult for us for the rest of the week.

As I mentioned last night we went to Coffradia on Monday. It was amazing the reception we received. I have never seen anything like it. I can't wait to post the pictures of it. They are so thankful for the garden projects. Some of them have tomato plants 4 feet tall and peppers everywhere. They are making enough to sale them and eat them. They are truly loving it. I can say this is a huge success there. Mostly the woman are working together. The men are always in the fields working so it's up to them and I think they kinda like it that way.

On Tuesday we went to a new community. As soon as we got there it was obvious another group had been there. Kids has Crock shoes on and they were clean. That tells you something. Almost all the kids were in school, that tells you something else. We just didn't feel led to continue there so we sent my friend Evert on a search for another community.

Each day we had 2 or 3 soccer games in the afternoon and it was extremely hot this year making it hard to sit through 3 or 4 hours. Not to mention there was no bathroom around. Games were getting intense. Teams were starting to fight for all there rights. Literally...

We quickly found we would need a cop to hang out with us so we went to the police station and the Captain gave us one each day and on the final day he gave us 3.

On Wednesday we went to the next community called Sa Bieta (Say Beat ah) This is a prodimatially Catholic area. We visited with the community leader and about 27 families who had agreed they would be interested in signing up for the garden project. Immediately you could tell this community needed help. The kids were not in school, their clothes were rags, their shoes were bad and their houses were pretty bad also. Good signs of a poverty area. They were very friendly and nice. We took pictures of all the kids who could not afford to go to school. It is my desire to get them sponsored so they can start school in February, the beginning of the next school year.

Thursday was the longest day ever for me and the group. We went back to Sa Bieta and gave out tools, seeds, irrigation systems, clothes, toys and jewelry for the older ones. They loved getting the little match box cars and some baseballs. The parents were very pleased to get the much needed tools. Some of them have tried a garden before but have no tools so it just didn't work. All of them just kept saying, we are willing to learn, please teach us. Very willing hearts.

At the end of the day Alisha saw we had gospel bracelets. I had not planned on giving them out at this village but thought why not. I walked them through the colors on the bracelet and then shared with them about how important it is to have your name in the Lambs Book of Life. I felt led to pray over them and give them a chance to receive Jesus as their savior. I expressed this is no a decision to make just because you think it is going to please me, do it because you desire to live forever with Christ and you want him to be your savior. Over 50 people respond, all of the adults, many young men and many older children. It was amazing. You could tell this decision was something they desire and not just "let's make Angie happy".

The local church will be working with them, they have an awesome place to have church. A huge tree at the leaders home.

We left and immediately had to go to the final games of the tournament. It was a very nervous time for all of us. We stood the entire time from 1 to 5. It had not rained on us the entire week until NOW. It came a huge thunder storm. God moved the thunder and cooled everything off. It was great.

That night was the banquet. Over 180+ people were in attendance. A dance/evangelism group was the star of the show. They rapped, danced and preached. It was really nice. They truly stole the show. We were out of power for over an hour so it caused things again to be rushed and we ran out of time. We raffled off a lot of shirts and balls but not near as many as we could have.

The guy in charge of the group preached and had over 50 of the boys receive Christ. It was worth all the hard work and all the frustrations. I can't wait to show you pictures.

Yesterday we located 10 of the girls from the orphanage. It was so wonderful to see them. They were so happy to see me. I am so glad they didn't forget me. 5 of them are in an orphanage about 1 hour from Somotillo, one girl is in a community about 30 minutes the other direction and 4 of them live with their mom in just 5 minutes from the first 5. It was so sad to see them for me. To see them dirty and their hair all tangled up was sad. They all seemed happy to some degree but I assure you it is not the same as living in the orphanage.

Today was our rest day. We went to Montombo which has the highest volcano in Nicaragua. It was amazing to be so high up. Unfortunately by the time we took the hour ride up the mountain it was so cloudy we could not see anything. We had to walk through the rain forest for over an hour. It was quite an exciting thing to see. We also went to the Maysa market so the new girls could bring home a taste of Nicaragua.

Please pray for Alisha and Erin as they travel home in the morning. They have to go to the airport at 5am. That's really early after a long day and both of them are not feeling well. Actually as I write this Terry, Logan and I are all feeling like we are getting a soar throat and we have a cough. Please pray God's healing in our bodies.

Tomorrow we are suppose to have Carmen and Isamar for the day but you know how this "dad" is. I am not sure if he will or not. We will see. Pray we have a great day with them.

On Monday please pray at 12:30 as we will be meeting with the director of Mi Familia to discuss our adoption options. We would like to pursue at least one of the girls from the House of Rose. The problem is we are being told the last 5 are a total package.. There is no way I can handle 5 girls in my house all under 7 years old.

I'll keep you updated on how that meeting goes.

Again, please pray for our health and the girls health as both of them are not feeling well tonight and will be traveling home tomorrow.

Last thing is Oscar. We got to see him for a few minutes this week and will see him again tomorrow. He is doing well with all the drugs going in his system. We are waiting on the results of the blood tests. We hope to hear something tomorrow. His mom called today to say one of the test had to be redone. We'll deal with that tomorrow I guess. He is excited but scared. One of the girls in the hospital had her surgery and her body rejected it and sadly she passed away. He told his mom that her kidney was the best one and his body would not reject it. I told him to keep confessing that and we will all agree with him. I will see him tomorrow at the hospital.

God Bless and sorry if this does not sound right. Didn't have time to proof it.

Pray for the Banquet

Tomorrow we are having the championship games for the soccer teams. It has been extremely exciting today as the last teams play for the playoff. We have planned a larger banquet tomorrow night. A group from a city near by has a great group of boys that do hip-hop and sing and they are coming to do the banquet for us. They are decorating and everything.  I cant wait to see what happens.

Please pray for the salvation of all these boys. There will be at least 200 people there. The mayor is speaking and we will be feeding them a great meal also in addition to feeding them the Word of God.

All is going well for us here so far. Our work will be done in Somotillo tomorrow and we will leave Friday to visit the girls from the orphanage I have supported. Pray we find them.

In the morning we will be distrubuting soccer clothes to the kids of the new village and toys and the irrigations systems.

Pray we connect with the many families we will be helping in the morning.

God Bless, got to go.

We're Here and Very busy..

I'm sorry I am just now giving you an update. We arrived on Saturday and have been going 90 miles an hour ever since. It has been a good trip so far with the exception of getting delayed in Houston for a day. This cause everything to be moved forward but we are working through it.

We have had a lot of issues with the soccer team. Many of my cleats were stolen and now we do not have enough.

Please pray for us as this has caused a great deal of issues for those who did not steal them.

Our team is doing well together and we will be visting the new community tomorrow.

We went to Coffradia and they had a major welcome party for me. I can't wait to show you the pictures. They made signs and painted rocks saying Welcome Ally (didn't know how to spell my name). It was so overwhelming to feel so loved.

Please continue to pray for us. It is very hot here and all are feeling very very tired at night.

I will write more tomorrow. For now, just pray for those who stole my cleats and those we are trying to minister to.

God Bless,

Angie

Delays or God's Diversions?

Have you ever been in a grocery store in a huge hurry to get out and you get in the slowest line ever, only to get out of that line and find yourself held up even longer? I can't be the only one that has happen to. Have you ever wondered why at the moment you need to get done as quick as possible you end up being delayed longer than normal? I have and I have found God showed me several times why.

Several years ago my family and I were traveling from Virginia back to Charlotte. About an hour down the road there were several vans following each other going around 80. We were all back to back of each other trying to get home when all the sudden I looked in the floor board and realized I didn't have my purse. Not sure if I had left it at my in-laws or at the gas station. I insisted Terry stop and let me call his mom. At this time there were no cell phones available for me to just call so we stopped at the next ramp.

I remember Terry saying something about us needing to go because he didn't want to drive over the mountain in the dark and it was obvious I was holding him up.

I called home and found I in fact I left it at the in-laws. We got back on the road again and about 2 miles down the road found traffic was backed up bumper to bumper. Again, I remember Terry saying, "if we had not had to stop..."

I saw lights up ahead and it appeared there was an accident. Once we got closer I started to get nervous because there were a lot of fire trucks, etc.

If you are guessing it was the vans that was in a wreck you are right. All three vans had plowed into another car. The vans were smashed together like sardines and it was obvious there was a lot of damage. The Lord showed me right that minute that our van would have be in the middle of that mess if we had not stopped. That was truly a God's Diversion that day.

Well today I write this from a hotel in Houston Texas. Yesterday we had a horrid day (as it felt yesterday). Today I am not so sure horrid is the right word.

To begin, 30 minutes before we were to leave to the airport we find that I had failed to realize my son Jordon's passport has expired in May. Franticly I called everyone only to get bad news that he could not fly. I called the airlines and a woman told me he can fly but he can't be back into the country without a new passport. So no problem I thought we can go to the Nicaraguan embassy since we have to go there anyway. Relief I thought.

Well after getting to the airport, dragging in 600 lbs of stuff we were told no, he can't go. Needless to say this was not one of my strong moments as I just could not believe this was happening to me. I could not just send Jordon home, plus I had two luggage bags full of stuff with his name on it that had to go.

A man from the airlines told me this happen to him once and he was able to fix it. We were flying through Houston which has a passport office and you can get one the same day. So we change the tickets for Terry and Jordon and decided they will stay in Houston and go today to get the passport and arrive in Managua a day later. Ok, not so bad right. Doable..

So we all get on the Charlotte to Houston flight and as I can tell we are getting close to landing the pilot comes on to say there is a terrible storm over the airport and no one is allowed in or out and we will have to circle until they allow it. Not long after that he comes back on to say we are running out of gas and will now have to go to Louisiana to get gas.

We proceed to the new airport to fill up with only an hour and half before our connecting flight to Managua. This airport is not ready for us and all the other planes that had to divert so before you know it we are late again. We finally take off and arrive in Houston about 6:15 (our managua flight was at 5:50). Needless to say they left us behind. The storms had moved by then and the flight left on time.

So here ALL of us are stuff in Houston, now all of us are leaving on the same flight together today.

Terry and Jordon are at the passport office trying to get Jordon a new passport which should happen and then we will fly out today at 5;50.

Why would all this happen I ask? Now many things are delayed. My soccer tournament will have to be moved forward, our meeting, tons of things had to be rescheduled.  Why?

I beat myself up about the passport for a while until God said, Angie, I caused you to not look at that passport, it was me that diverted your trip, TRUST ME..

So the next time you are upset in line because you are late already and now you are much later, ask God if he is keeping you from something or is it just poor planning on your part? :)

Please pray all of this goes as God plans for today and we ALL arrive safe in Managua.

I am praising him that He gave us this diversion because He could see what was up ahead and we could not.

I'll let you know more once I make it to Nicaragua.

Pray for us.

Angie, Terry, Jordon, Logan, Alisha and Erin
