New Projects for December Trip

It seems like I never stop right..? Well I don't. :) God is always giving me ideas to work on for my next trip.

I will be going in December to get the kids ready for school and to meet a new ministry that God has introduced me to as well as if all goes as planned I will be hosting a wedding for 20 - 30 couples. Yes a wedding.. I'm so excited as he is putting it all together. I do not feel it is right to lead people to the Lord but allow them to live in sin. It cost about $30 per couple to get married so Nicaraguans choose to live together since they can not afford the fees. To them it is ok, it is their customs and traditions. I tell them it's not God's way so let's have a wedding and make it legal.

I'll have more details coming.

I will be collecting the following items: Please keep me in mind if you have any of these things.

Mens white dress shirts, - size M and L Mens dress pants - sizes 32x30 and 34x30 (maybe some 32 long also) Women's white or cream short sleeve shirts -All sizes, S - XL -  something nice like what would be worn with a dress jacket for church. (The women all wear skirts so the shirt would need to be appropriate to wear with it.)

I'll need all these items by mid November so please keep me in mind if you have any. This is a special event so I do not want any clothes that look worn please.

Additional items I am currently collecting. (New & Used) Used must be slightly worn.

Girls knee high socks - sizes for  age 5 - Adult - prefer to be the thinner kid, no athletic type socks Boys black or white socks - sizes for age 5 - Adult - ankle to knee high, church style socks, cotton is fine, no no-show socks please.

If you see these type socks on sale please let me know. I need 44 pairs for the boys and 41 pairs for the girls. Any help you can offer would be great.

If anyone is interested in joining me for the December trip please let me know soon. I have several people that are praying about going and would love to include you.

As you see I have a lot planned and need a lot of things. I am so amazed by how God provides for each of these trips. These are his ideas not mine. I am not a wedding person, but through Him I can do all things..

Please pray for me as I plan these events and raise money for all the kids that need a sponsor. If you have not had time to check out the kids please do by clicking here. If you can't sponsor one, pray for one.. Pray others will step up and be a blessing to these wonderful kids.

Thanks so much for being a part of this great adventure God has me on.

Operation Education

Thanks to many of you I was blessed to send 49 kids to school this year from the community of Ceibita. 85% of those kids had never gone to school before.

This year I am hoping to bless those children with a second uniform and I have 36 new kids to add to the list.

Please take a moment to watch this video.

Operation Education

I will be taking sponsors from now until the end of October. Please consider helping change the lives of these children. Teaching them to read in turn teaches them to know Jesus through his Word.

A lack of education is a direct link to poverty and in turn poverty is a direct link to not getting an education. These families only make about $2 a day and can't afford to send their children to school.

Help me break this cycle in Ceibita. I know I can not change all of Nicaragua but for now I can change the lives of the kids God has put before me.

To view photos of all the children go to www.thepowerofoneministry.org/school

If you sponsored a child last year and would like to sponsor that child again, please let me know soon or that child could be taken by another family.

As I did last year I will provide a video thank you from your sponsored child.

To see videos of children from last year you can check out my YouTube channel at;

http://www.youtube.com/user/ahoneycutt0929#p/a

All monies collected go directly to that child. I have no overhead costs involved in this or any of my projects.

Thanks to everyone to help last year and thanks to those who are willing to at least ask God his will for this year.

My Sports Ministry Continues

For several years now I have been focusing on the youth of Somotillo during my summer trip. The more I am there and see the youth wondering the streets the more I realize the importance of working with them. This year we did things a little different than last year.

In the center of Somotillo there is a small park that has a tennis court area and lights. At night all the youth hang out there. It's kind of like going to our "Malls" to hang out. The boys there are a different group of youth than the ones that play sports on the teams I helped last year because these boys play Basketball and Soccer inside the court. It is a much smaller in size so they play with different rules and different balls.

The church that helps me organized the teams so when we arrived everything was set to go. On Monday they played soccer and Tuesday they played Basketball and Wednesday was suppose to be the playoffs but the rain decided to get involved so had to move games around but by the end of Wednesday all games were played and everyone knew to come to the banquet on Thursday night.

We decorated the church with sports shirts and balls and watched as they slowly showed up. No one ever comes on time in Nicaragua.

A church group from Leon (1 1/2 hours away) came to do the presentation. They provided the music, drama, dancing and most important the Gospel.

We provided donuts, drinks and the trophies, medals and door prizes. It was a lot of fun.

The main purpose for this was to share Jesus with them and at the end of the night 11 youth accepted the Lord. It was a great night in Somotillo.

Thanks to all of you who prayed for the rain and covered us in prayer that week. The results were all I could have wanted.

You can check out pictures of the event by clicking HERE.

It's great to be able to change the lives of the youth through sports. Please keep in mind as you clean your kids closets that I am always in need of soccer balls, baseballs and basketballs.

Thanks again for everything.

Hot Dogs, Soda Pops and Watermelon

I remember when I was growing up and eating hot dogs and a drinking a cold glass bottle of Coke. Those were the days. Last week while I was in Nicaragua I was blessed to experience that feeling again through my friends in Ceibita.

We arrive in Nicaragua on Friday the 9th with no issues. It was almost hard to believe since every time I go there is always delays, drama or something to cause me stress.

We traveled to Somotillo on Saturday and meet with the youth of the church I work with to show them how to play games like Americans do. Sack races, jump rope contests, playing popcorn on the parachute and many other games.

As Sunday arrived all the preparations had been done for me and we loaded the van full of teenagers and off we went.

There are over 40 families in Ceibita and all showed up ready to visit with me not knowing we have a surprise for them. There's about 75 kids under the age of 17.

With the help of the youth we had a blast playing games with the women, kids and the dads. It was great to see the dads loosen up, they even had a sack rase as the women played the "Over and Under" game with a beach ball. I laughed so hard I almost cried. This is something they just don't do. They never give up time from working to play with their kids or even enjoy a game for themselves of futbol..

While we were playing friends of mine were busy cooking hot dogs in the house. 274 hot dogs to be exact.

The weather was perfect that day and the food turned out great. We gave each person a hot dog, bottle of soda and a huge piece of watermelon. It was a great treat for them.

Afterwards I talked with them about why I felt led to have this celebration. I reminded them all that God had done in the last year for the community and their obedience and faithfulness had paid off. God had showed them that truly what ever they put their hands to would prosper and all the vegetables were proof of that.

At the end of the business that needed to be addressed I shared my heart with the men about how they were responsible for their families and responsible for the future of their kids. The men are so hard to reach. Most of them I think feel it is only the "Womans" job to be in church and accept the Lord. It's a culture issue and one hard to break.

Terry shared with them as well about how it is his responsibility as the head of the household to lead his family.

I prayed with them and much to my surprise one of the men came forward and accepted the Lord. He even told me he would go to church on Sunday. I was floored because I really didn't expect any of the men to respond. In addition to that man, 14 others came forward. Teenage boys and girls and several mothers. It was a wonderful end to the afternoon.

Thank you for prayers I truly felt them and needed them.

Praise God that 14 more have their name in the Lambs Book of Life.

More stories to come.

Are you investing in your children?

It's that time of the year when parents of children get them ready for school. Regardless if you homeschool or send your child outside the home there are things you do to invest in their school year like purchasing school supplies, new school clothes, shoes, new materials to teach from or just maybe it's a new backpack. All those items are investments you are making into your child's education. Last December I was blessed to raise enough sponsorships to send 49 kids to school from the community of Ceibita. They are doing well and all of them are making high grades. They are so proud of their accomplishments. The school term for them runs from February until Thanksgiving week so they are half way through the school year now.

I am working toward next school year for them. I have challenged their parents to ensure the 1 uniform they have last as long as possible. I examined everyone's uniform and shoes and wow.. much to my surprise they are not holding up very well. They are cheap made so they have already lost some buttons and the backpacks have zippers that have broken but then again I think last year my boys went through 2 backpacks each for the same reason.

I would like to ask each of you who are going school shopping for your kids to invest in another child. I know the economy is bad and it is hard for all of us but I am not asking for you to send a child to private school I am asking for you to invest in their lives, there's a big difference.

There are 26 more kids living in Ceibita that need uniforms and all the kids that were already sponsored will need some new clothes if not all for next year but for now I am only asking for some school supplies for them.

Yesterday I purchased 75 packs of crayons and 75 erasers for .20 and .30 cents each but I need some other items like:

Pencils

Pencil Sharpeners

Colored Pencils

Would you be willing to invest in the education of another by purchasing one or more of these items for me? I need 75 of each.

Soon I will have a list of all the kids posted on my website that need full uniforms so I am asking you now to start praying and asking God if it is your place to invest in a child's life by sending them to school for the year. The cost will be between $20 and $28 per child. I am working now on getting the entire uniform with shoes at a better rate than last year and a much higher quality of material. I will know soon.

Walmart has all the school supplies on sale now. Each of the items I need is only $1 each. If every one of you picked up just one set of each I would have double of what I need which would be even better. Please consider adding just a $1 or $2 or $3 to your child's school list and make an investment that will change a life forever.

I will need the supplies in November so if you can't give up the $3 this month maybe you can next month, however, you won't be able to purchase these items at a $1 then.

I have seen the investment we have made pay off already. One mother told me her teenager has been reading her the bible I gave them each day to her. She was so excited that her daughter who had never been to school has learned enough already to begin reading.. Thanks so much to those who sponsored a child last year.

If you would like to sponsor the same child you sponsored last year let me know. I will soon have the pictures online for you. For the kids from last year it will be the same picture because this year the rain got in our way and we could not take pictures of all the kids again. We did however manage to get pictures of the new kids.

Please pray about this investment. Just imagine how it would be if your child could not go to school.

75 Packs of Crayons for $17 what a deal..

Thanks for praying and investing in the kids of Ceibita..
